Sheriff’s Office Uses Helicopter and K-9’s to apprehend fleeing felon

On September 18th, 2024 Indian River County Sheriff’s Deputy Nieves initiated a traffic stop on an unregistered motor vehicle, driving in a careless manner. Deputy Nieves attempted to stop the suspect, Corey Conrad, on a dirt bike in the 1200 block of 20th Avenue. Deputy y Nieves active his emergency equipment and the suspect accelerated, left the roadway and began to flee behind several houses, using the dirt bike’s off-road capabilities.

Deputy Nieves immediately notified other deputies and supervisors in the area and they responded to establish a perimeter to contain the suspect, while the Sheriff’s Helicopter, “Hawk”, responded. Once Hawk and K-9’s were on scene the suspect was observed running in and out of backyards, while using porch roofs to hide from the helicopter. K-9 Sun and K-9 Knox were deployed on the scene and located the suspect. K-9 Knox located the suspect and the Suspect chose to ignore law enforcement and tried to run away again. This time, however, the suspect was apprehended by K-9 Knox, who bit the suspect and allowed the Deputies to place the suspect under arrest. The suspect was charged with the outstanding misdemeanor warrants as well as Felony Fleeing and attempting to elude arrest as well as resisting arrest without violence. Another outstanding job of using law enforcement tools to catch criminals by the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
